1. Công thức:
o Le gérondif được hình thành như le participe présent nhưng phía trước có “en”:
• Nous écoutons la radio => en écoutant la radio
• Nous lisons le journal => en lisant le journal
o Một vài động từ bất quy tắc:
• Être => en étant, avoir => en ayant, savoir => en sachant
2. Cách dùng:
o Le gérondif chỉ một hành động xảy ra cùng lúc với một hành động khác, hai hành động xảy ra đồng thời:
• Elle prend son café en écoutant les informations.
o Le gérondif có thể diễn đạt sự đồng thời:
• Fais attention au moment où tu traverses le boulevard.
Fais attention en traversant le boulevard.
o Le gérondif có thể diễn đạt nguyên nhân:
• Comme il a fait trop de sport, il s’est fait mal au dos.
En faisant trop de sport, il s’est fait mal au dos.
o Le gérondif có thể diễn đạt phương tiện hay cách thức:
• Il s’est cassé la jambe en skiant.
o Le gérondif có thể diễn đạt điều kiện:
• Tu pourras me contacter si tu appelles chez mon frère.
Tu pourras me contacter en appelent chez mon frère.
o Khi có “tout” phía trước, có thể thể hiện sự đối lập:
• Elle est maigre; pourtant elle mange beaucoup.
Elle reste mince tout en mangeant beaucoup.
